Kirk’s appointment comes a year after her husband was appointed to the same role

Donald Trump, President of the United States, has appointed Erika Kirk, the wife of slain political commentator Charlie Kirk, to the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors.
Her appointment was made over the weekend without a formal announcement. The Board of Visitors functions as an oversight body responsible for reviewing the academy’s curriculum, morale, and academic practices.
The board does not have decision-making authority but can submit recommendations based on its findings to the United States Department of the Air Force and the United States Department of Defense.
Board of Visitors chairman August Pfluger, a Republican congressman from Texas, said he had advocated for Erika Kirk to be appointed.
“Erika is the right person to fill Charlie’s place on the board and continue his work of inspiring the next generation of service members and advancing the academy,” he said.
Her appointment comes a year after her husband, Charlie Kirk, was selected for the same position. He was killed while speaking at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025.
Pfluger added that he looks forward to working with her to carry forward Kirk’s legacy.
Since her husband’s death, Erika Kirk has taken a leading role in his organisation, Turning Point USA (TPUSA).
Her appointment also comes amid ongoing debate over whether the U.S. Air Force Academy should award an honorary degree to the late political commentator.
