King Charles met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at Buckingham Palace on Monday during Carney’s visit to the UK.
Photographs showed the monarch welcoming the Canadian leader ahead of talks on the state of UK–Canada relations.
The Palace confirmed the meeting in its court circular, while Downing Street outlined the discussions, which included cooperation on trade, defence, and international security.
The leaders also addressed Middle East issues, agreeing on the importance of protecting freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, reaffirming support for Ukraine, and sustaining pressure on Russia.
According to the Canadian government, Carney and Keir Starmer condemned Iranian missile and drone attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure.
Carney’s UK visit, announced on Sunday following trips to Nordic countries, is intended to strengthen defence, trade, and economic partnerships with one of Canada’s closest allies.
The Buckingham Palace audience was a key element of the visit, reinforcing ties between London and Ottawa.
The meeting came shortly after Carney publicly called for Prince Andrew to be removed from the line of succession, describing his actions as “deplorable.”
