The Duchess of Edinburgh paid a visit to Radley College on Sunday, where she formally inaugurated the school’s impressive new Music School.
Sophie looked elegant in a blue dress paired with brown shoes, appearing attentive and engaged as she watched a group of young musicians during their rehearsal.
The opening concert was particularly memorable, showcasing two newly composed pieces created by contemporary composer Cecilia McDowall in collaboration with eight talented students.
With a warm smile, she officially unveiled a plaque marking the inauguration of the music school. The wooden plaque read: “Radley College Music School, Opened by HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh GCVO, 22nd March 2026.”
The state-of-the-art facility is more than just visually striking. It features a 300-seat concert hall, an additional recital space, 26 practice rooms, and a dedicated Song Room for choral rehearsals.
Radley College’s Warden, John Moule, highlighted that while the building itself is impressive, the true essence of the project lies in its people, noting, “Music teaches life skills.”
“It nurtures creativity through composition, encourages collaboration through ensemble work, builds discipline through regular practice, and strengthens confidence through performance.
