Meryl Streep Shares Anne Hathaway’s Casting Requirement for Devil Wears Prada 2

Meryl Streep revealed that Anne Hathaway personally intervened with the producers of The Devil Wears Prada 2 to ensure the models’ body sizes didn’t reflect what she saw on the real Milan Fashion Week runways.
Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar in an interview published Wednesday, March 25, 76-year-old Meryl Streep recounted attending real fashion shows during Milan Fashion Week as research for The Devil Wears Prada 2.
What she witnessed gave her pause.
“I was struck by how not only beautiful and young—everyone seems young to me—but alarmingly thin the models were,” she said. “I thought that all had been addressed years ago.”
Anne Hathaway, 43, apparently had the same reaction and acted immediately.
“Annie clocked it too,” Streep continued. “She made a beeline to the producers about it, securing promises that the models in the show we were putting together for our film would not be so skeletal!”
Streep’s verdict on her co-star was clear: “She’s a stand-up girl.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Streep reflected on the overwhelming public response to filming t
he sequel in New York City last summer, alongside returning cast members including Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.
The level of attention even took Streep by surprise.
“Even though we knew the impact of the first film two decades ago, none of us were prepared for the flood of both goodwill and intense attention that surrounded us,” she said. “We needed police barriers and crowd control.”
Reflecting on her acting approach, Streep confirmed she has moved on from method acting, recalling how miserable it made her during the original film.
“I was miserable in my trailer. I could hear them all rocking and laughing. I was so depressed!” she told Entertainment Weekly in 2021. “That’s the last time I ever attempted a Method thing.”
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is set to open in cinemas on May 1.
