PMD Forecasts Over 50mm of Rain and Winds Exceeding 50 km/h in Karachi

PMD Predicts Rain, Thunderstorms, and Strong Winds Across Pakistan from April 1–4
Rain is expected to begin in Karachi on the night of April 1, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting higher chances of showers on April 2 as a westerly weather system moves into Balochistan from Iran.
The Met Office said rain may continue in Karachi on April 3, with some areas potentially receiving 50mm or more. Strong winds, possibly exceeding 50 kilometres per hour, may accompany the system. The weather is likely to affect the country until April 4.
In a fresh advisory, the PMD warned of widespread rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds across much of Pakistan from April 1–4. The westerly wave will first hit southwestern Balochistan and gradually spread to nearly all provinces.
Sindh is expected to be among the last regions affected, with Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and several other cities forecasted to experience rain, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms from April 2–4.
The department cautioned about secondary hazards, including windstorms and lightning that may damage weak structures, electricity infrastructure, billboards, and solar panels. Standing crops in Sindh and other provinces could also be at risk from hail and strong winds.
Daytime temperatures are expected to drop noticeably across the country during this period. The PMD advised the public, tourists, and travelers to exercise caution and avoid non-essential travel.
Authorities have been directed to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to minimize potential damage. The PMD will issue an updated advisory as the weather system persists beyond April 4.
