Steven Knight’s latest installment of the hit franchise has officially begun production for Netflix

Peaky Blinders is returning with a fresh chapter, introducing a new generation of the Shelby family at its core.
Jamie Bell and Charlie Heaton have been cast as the leads in the upcoming series for Netflix and BBC, with creator Steven Knight confirming that filming is already underway in Birmingham.
Bell will play Duke Shelby, the eldest son of Tommy Shelby — the iconic character portrayed by Cillian Murphy throughout the original six seasons and the recent Netflix film Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
The role of Duke was previously portrayed by Conrad Khan in the final season of the original series and later by Barry Keoghan in the film. A recast had been expected, as the new storyline jumps ahead by a decade, placing events in post-war Birmingham during the early 1950s.
Heaton, widely known for his role as Jonathan Byers in Stranger Things, will also take on a leading role, although details about his character remain undisclosed. He is expected to help lead the next generation of the Shelby gang alongside Duke.
Additional cast members include Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch, and newcomer Lucy Karczewski, though their roles are still under wraps.
Knight expressed excitement about the new installment, calling it the beginning of a “new era” as the story shifts into post-war Birmingham. He praised the casting of Bell and Heaton and hinted that more announcements are on the way.
According to the official storyline, Duke Shelby is now older, more ambitious, and increasingly dangerous, as he becomes central to a fierce struggle to rebuild Birmingham after the war.
The announcement comes as Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man continues to perform strongly on Netflix, holding the number one spot globally for two weeks following its release on March 20.
