Johnny Depp Unveils New Rum Brand Treat for Captain Jack Sparrow Fans

Johnny Depp celebrated the launch of his new rum brand with a star-studded event in Los Angeles, making it clear the spirit is for fans of Captain Jack Sparrow.
The 62-year-old actor and musician hosted an intimate tasting at The Ebell Theater on March 31, alongside business partner Bobby DeLeon, to mark the debut of Three Hearts Rum.
Speaking to PEOPLE at the event, Depp explained the inspiration behind the name, rolling up his sleeve to reveal a tattoo. “Three hearts are easy,” he said. “That’s Vanessa [Paradis], the mother of my children. That’s Lily-Rose [Depp]. That’s Jack [Depp].”
He also confirmed the rum has the seal of approval from arguably his most famous alter ego. Asked if Captain Jack Sparrow would endorse it, Depp slipped into character: “I’m afraid so. He’s in there even now.”
Depp shared that his family has been supportive but low-key about the launch. “They’ve tried it. We did a little tasting session and everybody was cool and liked it. But, you know, at the same time, they’re like, ‘Cool, dad. That’s what you’re doing, go nuts.’”
On why he chose rum over other spirits, Depp joked that he had no interest in competing with Bob Dylan’s Heaven’s Door bourbon.
Beyond the fun, the brand also has a philanthropic side, aiming to support Caribbean communities frequently affected by hurricanes and tropical storms.
