Fakhar Zaman’s Appeal Rejected Following De Novo Inquiry and Hearings with Relevant Parties, Says Pakistan Cricket Board

The Pakistan Cricket Board announced on Thursday that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Technical Committee has rejected Lahore Qalandars opener Fakhar Zaman’s appeal against his two-match suspension.
The appeal was reviewed by the PSL Technical Committee, consisting of Professor Javed Malik, Dr Mumraiz Naqshband, and Mr Syed Ali Naqi. After conducting a de novo inquiry, examining all evidence, and hearing submissions from relevant individuals, the committee upheld the two-match ban originally imposed by match referee Roshan Mahanama.
The 35-year-old batter had been charged with a Level 3 offence under Article 2.14 of the PSL Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel for allegedly violating Article 41.3 of the playing conditions, which prohibits altering the condition of the ball, during the PSL 11 clash against arch-rivals Karachi Kings on March 29.
Following the match referee’s disciplinary hearing on Tuesday, Fakhar was handed a two-match ban after a detailed review of evidence and a personal hearing. Fakhar, who has consistently denied the allegations, had requested a full disciplinary hearing under the PSL Code of Conduct.
The controversy arose when on-field umpires reported an attempt to alter the ball’s condition ahead of the final over of the Kings’ run chase. Umpires Faisal and Sharfuddoula inspected the ball and ruled that it had been tampered with, resulting in a five-run penalty for the Qalandars. This reduced the target to nine runs off the final over instead of 14, allowing the Kings to secure victory with three balls to spare.
