Sindh Introduces Rs2,000 Petrol Subsidy for Every Registered Motorcyclist

In response to the historic surge in petroleum prices, the governments of Sindh and Punjab have rolled out major relief measures to ease the financial burden on citizens and offset rising costs.
In Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif unveiled a “big relief package” as part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s national austerity and savings programme.
Under the relief package, all public transport across Punjab — including the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus, Speedo Bus, and Green Electric Bus — will be free of charge, enabling commuters to travel without paying fares.
The package also provides financial support for farmers, offering a subsidy of PKR 100 per litre of diesel per acre. Motorcyclists will receive Rs100 for every 20 litres of petrol.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that the global crisis and the ongoing war in the Middle East have pushed fuel prices higher, affecting countries like Pakistan, which depend heavily on imported oil.
She commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for keeping petroleum prices stable for a month despite international challenges, adding, “The government will not leave citizens to face hardships alone.”
The chief minister also encouraged citizens to use public transport instead of private vehicles during the current crisis.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif also urged citizens to register their motorcycles in their own names within 15 days to be eligible for the subsidy.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced relief measures, including a Rs2,000 subsidy for each registered motorcyclist for April. Payments will be directly credited to verified owners’ bank accounts, and motorbike transfer fees have been waived.
The Sindh government also extended support to small farmers, providing Rs1,500 per acre for one month to those owning up to 25 acres. Approximately 336,000 registered farmers are expected to benefit from this initiative.
The relief package further covers public transport and the transport sector. Registered passenger buses will receive Rs100,000 per vehicle per month, two-axle trucks Rs70,000 per month, and heavy trucks Rs80,000 per month. Intra-city buses with higher fuel consumption will receive additional support.
“Only registered vehicles are eligible for these subsidies,” said CM Murad Ali Shah.
He added that lower-class railway fares will remain unchanged.
CM Murad emphasized the Sindh government’s commitment to protecting the most vulnerable segments from economic shocks.
“Our priority is to provide targeted relief where it is needed most, while maintaining fiscal responsibility. These measures will ensure that the common man is protected during this challenging time,” he said.
Regarding support for the agriculture sector, CM Murad noted that around 336,000 small farmers owning between 1 and 25 acres will receive Rs1,500 per acre.
“This subsidy is intended to help cover diesel costs for wheat threshing. Since verified data is already available, payments will begin next week,” he added, noting that previous fertilizer subsidy programs were implemented successfully without complaints.
