Syed Imran Ahmad, Motorway Police spokesperson, on Saturday dismissed reports claiming that advanced surveillance cameras and related equipment along the Sukkur-Multan section in Sindh, Pakistan were stolen by dacoits, calling the news “baseless.”
In a statement, he clarified: “The ITS surveillance cameras installed on the motorway were removed by the relevant administration themselves.”
He added that the “One Network” administration had removed the cameras in December 2023 for security and administrative reasons.
“The reports are presenting an old issue as a recent incident, which is completely false,” he said.
“There are alternative and effective arrangements in place for motorway surveillance,” the spokesperson added.
His clarification came after a report claimed that advanced surveillance and speed cameras, along with solar panels, lights, and poles installed along nearly 200 kilometres of the Sukkur-Multan motorway in Sindh, Pakistan, were allegedly stolen by katcha (riverine) area dacoits.
