Olivia Munn Praises Amanda Peet for Early Cancer Detection

Olivia Munn has opened up emotionally about her Your Friends & Neighbors co-star Amanda Peet’s breast cancer diagnosis, encouraging fans to prioritise early checkups after Peet’s experience highlighted how crucial timing can be.
Speaking to PEOPLE while promoting the show’s second season, Munn, 45—who is also a breast cancer survivor following her 2023 diagnosis—said she felt relieved when Peet shared the news with her last year.
“She told me last year that she was diagnosed, and I was so relieved she found it at such an early stage,” Olivia Munn said.
“She found it almost as early as possible. It truly felt like a gift, because catching it so soon meant she didn’t have to go through years of intense treatment.”
Munn also stressed the broader message behind Amanda Peet’s experience.
“She’s incredibly fortunate, and it’s a powerful reminder that early detection saves lives.”
Peet, 54, publicly shared her diagnosis for the first time in a deeply personal essay for The New Yorker on March 21, after keeping it private since 2025.
In the piece, she described an incredibly difficult period, receiving her diagnosis while both of her parents were in hospice care on opposite coasts.
When her sister called to say their father was near death, Peet rushed to New York City but arrived too late.
“I didn’t make it before my father took his last breath, but I was able to see him before his body was taken from the apartment,” she wrote.
“As soon as my dad’s body was gone, I found myself overwhelmed again with fear about my cancer.”
Peet received her first clear scan in January. Just days later, her mother, who had Parkinson’s disease, passed away in hospice with Peet by her side.
In Your Friends & Neighbors, Peet plays therapist Mel Cooper, while Munn stars as her friend and neighbour Sam Levitt. New episodes are now streaming on Apple TV+.
