PESHAWAR: Member of the National Assembly Sher Afzal Marwat has said that the cancellation of a recent public gathering spared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from embarrassment, claiming there had been no proper arrangements in place. “Allah saved the party from embarrassment,” he remarked.
Speaking to the media outside the Peshawar High Court, Marwat also strongly criticised the provincial government, alleging that corruption in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached alarming levels.
He alleged that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had approved Rs1.5 billion for development projects in his constituency, but expressed concerns over irregularities in their implementation. Marwat claimed that health authorities violated rules by awarding contracts to a preferred individual, which led to legal proceedings.
He further stated that the Peshawar High Court had already issued a stay order on what he called a “suspicious tender,” adding that the case remains under judicial review.
Sher Afzal Marwat also spoke about cases registered against him, saying that despite more than two and a half years passing, police and prosecution have failed to produce evidence. He said multiple FIRs have been filed against him across the country, but he was particularly disappointed with the provincial government’s handling of his cases.
He also claimed that while around 450 cases were withdrawn after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) came into power, his case was not included in the relief measures, raising concerns over what he described as selective treatment.

Earlier, PTI postponed its scheduled rally following a request from the government after talks between both sides ended on a positive note, ARY News reported.
According to reports, negotiations between government and opposition leaders were held in the opposition lobby of the National Assembly, where both sides agreed to ease tensions for the time being. The government had requested PTI to postpone the rally planned for the following day, which the party accepted after consultations.
The meeting included Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf from the government side. Representing the opposition were Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, and Aamir Dogar, among others.
Officials familiar with the talks said the decision to postpone the rally was made to promote a more constructive political environment, as dialogue between the two sides appears to be gradually improving. However, they added that this does not represent a full resolution, but rather a temporary easing of tensions.
