Jacob Elordi reflects on his teenage dreams of winning an Oscar one day

On Sunday night, Jacob Elordi fulfilled a promise he made as a teenager by bringing his mom, Melissa, as his date to the 2026 Academy Awards—a vow he made when he was just 15
The 28-year-old Jacob Elordi, star of Euphoria and nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as The Creature in Frankenstein, made a striking appearance on the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in a classic Bottega Veneta suit. His mother, Melissa, arrived alongside him in a stunning black gown decorated with red and blue sequined flowers.
Elordi had shared the story of the promise on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in January. “I’m going to take mom,” he said. “I promised her when I was 15 that I would take her. So, I have to honour that.”
He also reflected on his father’s more cautious perspective, wondering if the plan would ever come to fruition.
My mom fully believed in me the whole time. I remember my dad doing the classic dad thing, saying, ‘You need a plan B because this might not be feasible.’ And I think I replied, ‘My plan B is the Oscars.’”
In the end, no plan B was needed.
While Sean Penn took home the Best Supporting Actor award, Frankenstein still walked away with wins for Best Costume Design, Best Makeup & Hairstyling, and Best Production Design
