Blake Lively discovered one of the challenges of raising four creative kids — especially when it comes to April Fools’ Day.
The actress shared the results of her children’s prank on her Instagram Stories on April 1, posting a short clip showing her toilet lid covered in pink markings and the seat wrapped in plastic wrap.
She poked the center repeatedly to demonstrate just how thoroughly she had been tricked, captioning the video with a humorous note: “I knew I never should’ve taught them how to read a calendar.”
The pranksters were none other than Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ four children: James, 11, Inez, 9, Betty, 6, and Olin, 3.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2012, usually keep their kids out of the spotlight but are open about the joyful chaos of raising four young children.
Last November, Reynolds shared their parenting philosophy at the Wall Street Journal’s CMO Summit in New York, describing a gentle approach that still somehow results in playful mayhem.
“Soft parenting is new, right? I didn’t have that,” he said. “There’s not a lot of yelling or punishments or anything like that.”
He acknowledged the spirited nature of their children.
“My kids feel safe. Are they still, like, spawns of Satan? Yes. Am I calling myself Satan [at] this moment? Yes. But they are. They are still kids.”
Lively has similarly reflected on motherhood with warmth and humor.
“My life has become more intimate,” she told Vogue in August 2024. “Sitting around with them doing chicken dances while I have a very serious conversation with you is probably the most accurate portrait of me possible.”
Judging by Tuesday’s April Fools’ prank, that portrait remains spot on.
