Scarlett Johansson was reportedly offered the role of Mother Gothel but ultimately turned it down.

Disney’s live-action Tangled has officially cast its Mother Gothel.
Kathryn Hahn, acclaimed for her roles in The Tiny Beautiful Things and The Studio, will portray the villainous character in the upcoming film.
In Tangled, Mother Gothel is the villain who kidnaps the infant Princess Rapunzel to exploit the healing and youth-restoring powers of her magical golden hair.
She keeps Rapunzel locked in a hidden tower for 18 years, posing as a caring mother while manipulating and gaslighting her. Using fear and control, Gothel prevents Rapunzel from discovering her true identity or leaving the tower.
Earlier this year, it was reported that Kathryn Hahn was in talks to play Mother Gothel. When the live-action Tangled first entered development in October, Scarlett Johansson had been considered for the role. However, the two-time Oscar nominee stepped back due to her upcoming commitments on Batman II and The Exorcist reboot.
Hahn recently shared a playful Instagram video, revealing that she had just learned OOTD means “Outfit of the Day”, while showing off a T-shirt decorated with cutouts of the animated Mother Gothel, originally voiced by Donna Murphy. Fans have also noticed her Instagram handle is @motherhahn, a nod to her new role.
The announcement comes months after her name first circulated for the role in January. Alongside Hahn, Disney has confirmed other key cast members for the live-action adaptation, with Teagan Croft as Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider.
