SSGC Balochistan GM Says Pipeline Repairs to Start Today Following Security Clearance

QUETTA: Gas supply remained disrupted in several parts of Quetta and other districts of Balochistan after unidentified armed men blew up a main gas pipeline in the Western Bypass area of the provincial capital.
“An 18-inch main gas pipeline was blown up by unknown individuals,” confirmed a spokesman for the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), adding that the incident took place in Akhtarabad, on the outskirts of Quetta.
The explosion caused the pipeline to catch fire, suspending gas supply to many areas of the city, a senior police officer said.
According to SSGC, affected areas in Quetta include Hazara Town, Hazarganji, Khaizi, and Nohsar, while other impacted districts include Pishin, Ziarat, Kalat, Mastung, and Kuchlak, as gas supply from the main distribution system was cut off.
“A large portion of the pipeline was destroyed in the blast,” SSGC officials said, noting that engineers and staff reached the site to assess the damage. Repairs are set to begin after security clearance. A heavy contingent of security forces has been deployed at gas installations in Quetta following the incident.
The SSGC Balochistan general manager said the damaged pipeline could not be repaired immediately. He added that repair work is scheduled to begin today (Tuesday) after receiving security clearance, with replacement pipes to be transported from Karachi.
Authorities have advised residents to arrange alternative gas sources for the next one to two days until repairs are completed.
