Sindh CM Highlights Motorcyclists as Among the Hardest-Hit by Rising Fuel Prices

The Sindh government has launched a major relief program for motorcycle owners, offering a Rs2,000 petrol subsidy for each registered bike.
This initiative follows a recent steep increase in fuel prices across Pakistan, with petrol reaching Rs458.41 per litre and high-speed diesel climbing to Rs520.35, putting a significant strain on daily commuters and transportation costs nationwide.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has identified motorcyclists as one of the most affected groups amid rising global fuel prices, driven by the US-Israel conflict with Iran.
Speaking at a press conference today, he noted that Sindh has roughly 6.7 million registered motorcycles, underscoring the scale and significance of the petrol subsidy program.
To receive the Rs2,000 subsidy, motorcycle owners must follow a clear registration and verification process, as outlined by the chief minister:
- Owners should register their motorcycles through the Excise Department’s digital application, providing accurate CNIC and bank account information.
- Motorcycles must be registered in the owner’s name within a 15-day window to be eligible for the subsidy.
- Ownership transfers will be free for 15 days, allowing rightful owners to claim the benefit.
- Payments of Rs2,000 per bike will be directly credited to verified accounts of registered owners, expected between April 15 and 20.
