Princess Kate Opens Up About Her Life-Changing Cancer Battle

Catherine, Princess of Wales has been open with her supporters about her health, describing her cancer journey as a life-changing experience that has pushed her to find a new sense of normal through significant lifestyle adjustments.
The future queen, who is currently in remission, has also spoken about making specific changes to her daily routine.
During a visit to Colchester Hospital in southeast England last July, the 44-year-old Catherine, Princess of Wales described the period as a “really, really difficult” time in her life.
She explained: “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually that’s not the case.”
The princess first revealed in March 2024 that she was undergoing cancer treatment and later shared in January 2025 that she was in remission. However, she has not disclosed the specific type of cancer she was diagnosed with.
Despite her recovery, she admitted that she can no longer “function normally at home as [she] perhaps once used to.”
According to the British royal, finding a “new normal” takes time.
“It’s a roller coaster, it’s not smooth like you expect it to be. But the reality is you go through hard times,” she said.
The Princess of Wales has often spoken openly about the challenges of life after cancer. Most recently, she revealed that she has significantly reduced her alcohol consumption since her diagnosis.
She shared this while visiting Southwark Brewing Company on March 12, one of several stops she and Prince William, Prince of Wales made along the River Thames that day.
While pouring pints at the brewery, Catherine, Princess of Wales said, “Since my diagnosis, I haven’t had much alcohol. It’s something I have to be a lot more conscious of now,” according to Matt Wilkinson of The Sun on X.
The royal editor added that Kate then jokingly turned to Prince William, Prince of Wales, saying, “But you like cider,” referring to her husband’s preferred drink.
Kate continues to use her platform to support those facing similar health challenges. She shared a video message on February 4 for World Cancer Day, expressing her solidarity with everyone affected by cancer.
“On World Cancer Day, my thoughts are with everyone who is facing a cancer diagnosis, undergoing treatment, or navigating their way through recovery.
“Cancer touches so many lives — not only patients, but also the families, friends, and caregivers who walk beside them,” she said.
