Disciplinary committee imposes Rs20 million fine on pacer; Naseem parts ways with social media adviser

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has released the results of disciplinary committee proceedings concerning violations of several clauses in Naseem Shah’s central contract and the board’s social media rules.
The PCB had issued a show-cause notice to Naseem Shah on 27th March 2026, detailing the alleged violations and requesting his response.
Following this, a three-member disciplinary committee conducted a personal hearing on 30th March 2025 after reviewing Naseem’s reply.
After evaluating his submissions, the committee concluded that despite Naseem’s unconditional apology, he had breached multiple clauses of his central contract. Consequently, a fine of Rs20 million has been imposed.
It was also noted that Naseem has already terminated his social media adviser, who will now be blacklisted by the PCB from working with any player under its jurisdiction.
The PCB reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining professional standards, enforcing contractual obligations, and safeguarding the integrity of the game.
The controversy arose during the opening ceremony of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 at Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday, attended by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz as the guest of honour.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi welcomed the chief minister and introduced her to the franchise owners participating in the tournament. She also extended her best wishes to all competing teams and was introduced to players from both sides ahead of the curtain-raiser.
Soon after, a post from Naseem’s X account drew widespread attention. The post, a quote retweet of a PCB media post showing Chairman Naqvi greeting the chief minister, sparked significant engagement and lively debate across social media, generating diverse opinions among fans and the cricketing community.
Responding to the controversy, the right-arm pacer reassured his followers that the post was unintentional, explaining that his account had been hacked.
“This account of Naseem was recently hacked but has now been successfully recovered,” he stated, clarifying that the incident resulted from a security breach and was not a personal statement.
