Sindh Introduces Rs2,000 Petrol Subsidy for Every Registered Motorcyclist

In response to the historic surge in petroleum prices, the governments of Sindh and Punjab have announced significant relief measures to ease the financial burden on citizens and counter the effects of rising fuel costs.
In Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif introduced a “major relief package” as part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s national austerity and savings initiative.
As part of the relief package, all public transport in the province—including the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus, Speedo Bus, and Green Electric Bus—will be free, allowing commuters to travel without purchasing tickets.
The package also includes financial support for farmers, offering a subsidy of PKR 100 per litre of diesel per acre. Motorcyclists will receive Rs100 for every 20 litres of petrol.
Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif noted that the global crisis and ongoing conflict in the Middle East have driven up fuel prices, severely affecting countries like Pakistan that rely heavily on imported oil.
She commended PM Shehbaz Sharif for keeping petroleum prices stable for a month despite international challenges, saying, “The government will not leave citizens to face hardships alone.”
The Punjab chief minister encouraged people to use public transport instead of private vehicles during the current fuel crisis. She also reminded motorcyclists to register their bikes in their own names within 15 days to be eligible for the subsidy.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah announced relief measures, including a Rs2,000 petrol subsidy for each registered motorcyclist in April. Payments will be directly credited to verified owners’ bank accounts, and motorbike transfer fees have been waived.
Sindh’s relief package also includes support for small farmers, with owners of up to 25 acres set to receive Rs1,500 per acre for one month. Approximately 336,000 registered farmers are expected to benefit.
The package further extends assistance to the public transport and transport sectors. Registered passenger buses will receive Rs100,000 per vehicle per month, two-axle trucks Rs70,000 per month, and heavy trucks Rs80,000 per month. Intra-city buses with higher fuel consumption will also get additional support.
“Only registered vehicles will be eligible for these subsidies,” said CM Murad Ali Shah.
He added that lower-class railway fares will remain unchanged.
CM Murad emphasized that the Sindh government is committed to protecting the most vulnerable segments from economic shocks.
“Our priority is to provide targeted relief where it’s needed most, while maintaining fiscal responsibility. These measures will ensure that the common man is supported during this challenging period,” he said.
Regarding support for the agriculture sector, CM Murad noted that approximately 336,000 small farmers owning 1 to 25 acres will receive Rs1,500 per acre.
“This subsidy is designed to cover diesel costs for wheat threshing. Since verified data is already available, payments will begin next week,” he added, noting that previous subsidy programs for fertilizers had been implemented successfully without complaints.
