Sindh has rolled out a new electric vehicle (EV) taxi scheme, expanding the city’s eco-friendly transport options. The program aims to promote cleaner travel, enhance urban mobility, and create employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
The initiative was officially launched by Senior Minister for Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon, with agreements signed between Sindh Bank, the Sindh Development Fund, and the Sindh Mass Transit Authority to support financing and operations.
Officials noted that the EV taxi project is part of a wider push toward sustainable transport. With rising fuel prices and worsening urban pollution, electric vehicles are being positioned as a viable alternative for public and commercial transport.
During the ceremony, the minister emphasized the government’s ongoing transport initiatives, including the Pink Bus service and the rollout of electric buses, both of which have been praised for improving accessibility and safety, particularly for women.
