LAKKI MARWAT: At least six police personnel were martyred and one injured in a blast near a police vehicle in the Bettani tribal area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lakki Marwat district, a police spokesperson confirmed on Friday.
The explosion occurred in close proximity to a police mobile, claiming the lives of six officers and leaving one policeman wounded, the spokesperson added.
Following the blast in the Bettani tribal area, additional police contingents were dispatched to secure the site and assist with response efforts, a police spokesperson said.
Condemning the attack, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the martyred officers, offering heartfelt condolences to their families.
Pakistan has seen a surge in cross-border terrorist activity, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, provinces bordering Afghanistan, since the Taliban regained control in 2021.
In response, Pakistan launched “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq”, targeting insurgents along the border and within Afghanistan. According to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, the operation has killed at least 641 Afghan Taliban fighters, injured over 855, destroyed 243 checkposts, captured 42, and eliminated 219 tanks, armored vehicles, and artillery guns.
Earlier, Pakistan also targeted seven terrorist camps and hideouts along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border belonging to Fitna al Khawarij (FAK), its affiliates, and Daesh-Khorasan in retaliation for recent suicide attacks. Airstrikes in Nangarhar, Paktika, and Khost provinces killed over 80 militants, according to security sources.
In October 2025, the two countries also engaged in border clashes after unprovoked attacks on Pakistani posts by the Afghan Taliban and militants. The clashes resulted in over 200 Taliban and affiliated militants killed and 23 Pakistani soldiers martyred defending the country.
Despite several rounds of talks, no lasting agreement was reached due to the Afghan Taliban regime’s reluctance to act against terrorist outfits.
