‘Super Mario Galaxy’ Movie: Captain Marvel Star Realizes Childhood Dream Role

Brie Larson Realizes Childhood Dream as Princess Rosalina in ‘Super Mario Galaxy Movie’
Brie Larson is having a full-circle moment — and it’s delightfully heartfelt.
The Oscar-winning actress steps into the cosmic world of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie as Princess Rosalina, but this isn’t just another role. It’s deeply personal.
In an interview with Cosmopolitan UK, Larson shared how this opportunity connects back to her childhood, playing Super Mario Galaxy with her sister.
“I’ve always loved video games… It’s art, it’s for everybody,” she said, firmly debunking the idea that gaming belongs to any single group.
And if you think she’s keeping it cool about landing the role? Not even close.
“She would just cry… a lot,” Larson recalled of her 10-year-old self. “If I knew there was relief in the future… I don’t think there would be any words, just tears.”
Before Captain Marvel or an Oscar for Room, she was just a kid chasing a dream many said might never happen — and now, that dream has come true.
Even with her voice acting experience, the role presented unique challenges. “You get into these conundrums… ‘This is Princess Rosalina hugging someone’… how does that affect your voice?” Larson explained.
About Rosalina herself, Larson describes her as “an otherworldly, strong, motherly cosmic force… she’s not fully definable… she’s everything.”
Now in cinemas, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie offers something for longtime fans and nostalgia seekers alike, with Larson promising a simple takeaway: “The film has such a beautiful message.”
