Rawalpindi police have been placed on high alert, with strict and enhanced security measures implemented to ensure comprehensive safety across the city.

The district administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi announced on Sunday the immediate suspension of all public and goods transport in the twin cities ahead of the expected second round of US–Iran talks in the capital.
The Islamabad Deputy Commissioner ordered the suspension of heavy and public transport services until further notice, without giving any specific reason.
“Heavy transport and public transport in the city will remain suspended until further orders. Citizens are requested to fully cooperate with security agencies. Thank you,” the Islamabad Deputy Commissioner said in a post on X.
Similarly, in Rawalpindi, all private, public, and goods transport has been suspended with immediate effect. The official said that further updates will be issued later.
“All private, public and goods transport in Rawalpindi is hereby suspended with immediate effect. Further updates will be shared,” the Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner stated in a post on X.
The announcement came amid speculation about a new round of talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad. According to media reports, the capital is expected to host the second round next week, although there has been no official confirmation from Pakistan, Iran, or the United States.
A day earlier, Iran’s deputy foreign minister stated that no date has been finalized for the next round of negotiations with the United States, adding that a framework of understanding must be agreed upon first.
Security measures
Earlier, Rawalpindi police were placed on high alert on the instructions of City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani.
According to the state-run news agency APP, “Rawalpindi Police have placed the city on high security alert and implemented extraordinary arrangements to ensure foolproof security in view of the movement of foreign delegations.”
More than 10,000 police personnel were deployed across the city, while over 600 special pickets were set up to strictly monitor all entry and exit points.
Special units, including Elite Commandos and trained snipers, were assigned security duties. In addition, the Elite Force, Dolphin Force, police station mobile units, and other quick response teams conducted continuous patrolling across the city.
