Sherrone Moore Sentenced to 18 Months Probation, Avoids Jail Time After Misdemeanor Plea
The 40-year-old former coach was charged following a confrontation with his executive assistant, with whom he had previously been in a relationship. He was dismissed from his role on December 10, 2025, after the university became aware of the incident.
On the same day, authorities allege that he went to the woman’s apartment and blamed her for his termination. Reports further state that he threatened to harm himself using butter knives inside the residence.
He initially faced a felony home invasion charge along with two additional counts, which carried the possibility of significant prison time. However, prosecutors later agreed to drop the felony charge. He ultimately pleaded no contest to misdemeanor trespassing and misuse of a telecommunications device.
Judge Cedric Simpson sentenced him to probation in Washtenaw County Court, taking into account his lack of prior criminal history. The two misdemeanors carried a maximum penalty of six months in jail.
Sherrone Moore previously had a notable coaching career at the University of Michigan, joining as tight ends coach in 2018 before rising to offensive coordinator. He later became head coach after Jim Harbaugh’s departure to the NFL and helped guide the Wolverines to the 2023 national championship.
