WhatsApp is working on a new feature designed to better organize the app by separating business interactions from personal conversations. Spotted in the latest Android beta, the update aims to tackle user concerns about the increasing number of promotional messages and marketing notifications crowding the main chat list.
At its core, the feature will automatically shift business-related chats out of the primary inbox. According to WABetaInfo, any conversation with a business account that includes updates or promotional content will be moved to a dedicated section after 24 hours.
This new “folder-style” section works much like the current “Archived Chats” feature, keeping business conversations available for later viewing while preventing them from cluttering the main chat list or overshadowing personal messages.

The update mainly targets business accounts that rely on cloud-based services to send automated messages at scale. Many users have noticed a rise in spam-like content after signing up for services or subscribing to updates. With this change, business chats will remain in the main inbox for the first 24 hours, allowing time for immediate interaction. If there’s no further engagement, the conversation is automatically moved out of view, helping users stay focused on personal messages.
Context and Strategic Shift
This move comes as many marketing and telemarketing companies shift from traditional calls to digital messaging platforms to connect with consumers. Separating these interactions into a dedicated space reflects a broader trend in mobile communication—cleaner, more organized interfaces that give users better control over what demands their attention.
Although the feature is still being tested, it signals a meaningful step in WhatsApp’s effort to balance its role as both a personal messaging app and a business communication platform. Alongside this, the company is also said to be experimenting with a redesigned home screen and offering more clarity on why unknown contacts may sometimes appear in the Status section.
